Loris sits where SC-9 meets US-701 in northern Horry County — small-town living with the North Strand and Conway both within about half an hour.

A hospital in town, a ~$260K median, a friendly Main Street and a slower pace make this the budget-friendly retirement option — beach days are a half-hour drive, not a daily walk.

This is where a first home comes with land: D.R. Horton's Sutton Farm and Meadow Walk start in the $220Ks–$240Ks on generous lots, and older in-town homes trade for less.

Loris is a cash-flow play, not a flip: prices are steady, homes sell after a couple of months, and 1,000+ planned new homes point to long-term demand.

D.R. Horton · New Construction
One of the builder's newest Loris-area communities.
Loris is a genuine small town — about 2,400 people inside the city limits, a median age of 51, and a Main Street that still hosts a farmers market, summer Tuesday-night concerts and the Bog-Off Festival, which draws 35,000+ visitors every October. It has its own hospital (McLeod Health Loris), Horry County schools from elementary through high school, a nature park, a golf course and the Waccamaw River nearby. The trade-off is distance: North Myrtle Beach is about 31 minutes away.
This is one of the most affordable markets on the Grand Strand: the median sale price was about $260,000 in August 2026, flat year-over-year, with homes taking around 76 days to sell. New construction is reshaping the town — D.R. Horton, Dream Finders, Stanley Martin and Starlight Homes are all building, with more than 1,000 homes planned, many on lots from a third of an acre up to a full acre.
The town is inland in northern Horry County, about 31 miles and 47 minutes from Myrtle Beach and roughly the same to Myrtle Beach International Airport. The closer beach is North Myrtle Beach — about 24 miles down SC-9, around 31 minutes — while Conway and Coastal Carolina University are about 29 minutes south.
